And One for those Who Love NC Politics

Susan and I recently had dinner at a wonderful restaurant. It's small and intimate and the food and service are always, always perfect. Always spot on. We've been there many times and never had a a morsel of bad food or a hiccup in the service. The tables are close together so even if you try not to (and who does that?) you can hear the conversations at the tables beside you. Everything was going perfectly with our dinner and for the table on the left side of us, but for the couple to our right, who looked a little familiar, things were not going very well. When their dinner was served, her meal was just as she had ordered it but the filet he ordered came out as a burger. He sent it back , repeated his original order and reminded the server "make sure you serve it with the mashed yukon golds and asparagus." The server was very apologetic that the order was incorrect and she couldn't figure out what went wrong and his order would be corrected and back to his table in 3 or 4 minutes. About the same time, Susan and I were served our meals such that the two of us were eating while only 1 was eating at the table beside us. The other was waiting.

Then the asparagus arrived the guy had ordered. I thought, that's strange that his side dish came out without the rest of the order and could be cold when the rest of the dish comes." Another 10 minutes passed. She was eating her meal slowly but he had nothing....the asparagus were uneaten...waiting for his steak and potatoes. The server came over again and apologized as did the hostess. Still nothing.

We talked a little and I asked if they had been to this restaurant before and they said no. I told them to please try it again because we'd never had the type of experience they were having and it was most unusual. I couldn't figure it out.

Another 10 minutes went by and the steak finally came out. Alone on the plate. No mashed potatoes. This was getting funny only because it wasn't my meal. He reminded the waitress that he also had asked (several times that I had heard) for mashed potatoes and she repeated the same old refrain that she didn't know what had happened and she would go get them. This time the food came out fairly quickly but the evening was getting older and patience was waning. He ate his steak and potatoes without much enjoyment.

As we were all preparing to leave at the same time, we introduced ourselves to each other and I quickly realized why the couple looked so familiar to me. He was a huge backer of HB2 and his picture had been in the paper more than a few times.

As we walked out of the restaurant I looked over my shoulder to see a very tall woman standing at the kitchen door watching us leave.....she was very attractive....but a tad....was it masculine? and was that an adams apple at her throat? I stood there for a moment and she smiled a great big smile at Susan and me and then she winked, turned and walked back into the kitchen.

Revenge that night wasn't best served cold....but it was served slowly.
